Schizophrenia
Mental Illness Awareness Poster
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder that is characterized by disruptions in thought processes, perceptions of reality, emotional responsiveness, and social interactions. I designed two 18" by 24" posters to raise awareness of this existence mental disorder by using abstract shapes and lines.

Hallucinations involve seeing and hearing things that aren't actually there, and they are a key symptom of schizophrenia. To capture this experience, I used wavy lines that mimic optical illusions. Another symptom of schizophrenia is "flat affect," where individuals struggle to express emotions, appearing dull and unresponsive, and I aimed to convey this through a black-and-white color palette for the overall composition. The title, "Schizophrenia," gradually fades into the background, symbolizing a false sense of perfection in reality. Additionally, I incorporated a chromatic aberration effect on the wavy lines to further highlight the disorienting nature of hallucinations.
For this approach, I wanted to explore the experience of a schizophrenic mind, particularly the disorganized thoughts and speech that often accompany the disorder. To represent this, I designed a ball made of tangled, scribbled strings, symbolizing the chaotic and messy nature of such a mind. The title, "Schizophrenia," resonates with the concept of the ball, reinforcing the connection between these two elements.
